Sudan – Whose Oil? Write a letter to China!
In 2008 IKV Pax Christi, NiZA and Oxfam Novib will focus on the role of China. The influence of the Asian countries is increasing rapidly.
In the Sudanese oil industry China is the biggest player. At the one hand this means development: Chinese invest in Sudan, especially in infrastructure. But China can do more and is even obliged to do so. The Peace Agreement of 2005 for example sais that the oil industry should pay compensation to the population of the oil areas that was chased away and lost their possessions. The Chinese do not take this responsibility. Their efforts to implement the peace agreement are minimal.
You can make a difference!
On www.su-dan.org you can send a letter to Chinese companies, politicians and ambassadors. You can call them to have more attention for the negative consequences of their search for oil in Sudan and the exploitation. Also you’ll find more information about the role of China.
