BICC - Bonn International Center for Conversion
BICC is an independent, non-profit organization, dedicated to promoting peace and development through the efficient and effective transformation of military-related structures, assets, functions and processes.
BICC's international staff conducts researches and organizes training and conferences on "Arms", "Peace building" and "Conflict". By making information and advice available to governments, NGOs, and other public or private sector organizations, we raise awareness for BICC's key issues.
Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC) researches the link between commercially exploitable resources and the outbreak and continuation of armed conflicts in Africa. The (past) conflicts in Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria (Niger Delta), Sierra Leone and Somalia have been examined on the role of external economic actors and the so called ‘war economies' in these countries. Moreover, BICC took a close look at the possibilities that exist for the international community to influence the conflict parties and promote peace.
From 2007 onwards BICC is the German focal point of "Fatal Transactions" and will raise specific issues around resource exploitation and conflict with the German public, companies, academics and policymakers. This will be based upon ongoing research work in the ‘Resource Conflict Monitor' and in collaboration with the international partners of the Fatal Transactions campaign.
