- President Laurent Kabila fails to protect its own people by not controlling his own army which is abusing instead of protecting the Congolese people. Kabila needs to take responsibility to finally break the link between the violence and the trade in natural resources in the east. Creating transparency in the mining business will make clear how much money is available to the country. Money that should be used to build up the country, not cause another war.
- The European Union member states need to put their commercial interests in the mining assets of Kabila’s country aside and put pressure ánd assist the Government of the DRC in getting its mining and trade in natural resources organized.
