As important importer of natural and/or processed uranium, the EU can do various things to make sure its thirst for nuclear energy does not harm the people in Africa. The EU should develop sustainability criteria for the ways in which the imported uranium is mined and milled. Furthermore, the EU should provide support to African governments to make sure that they receive fair amounts of revenue from uranium mining companies which they can use to fight poverty. Also, the EU should do more research in order to understand the impact of its demand for uranium from Africa.
