Fatal Transactions submission on EIB Statement

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the implementing financial lending agency of the European Union based in Luxembourg. The shareholders of the Bank are the European Member States. The Bank is therefore obliged by its shareholders to follow the European policies such as on development and environment. The Bank is currently revising its Environmental and Social Statement. This statment consitst of non-binding guidelines that the bank uses to assess possible projects.

Statement
Fatal Transactions, invited by the EIB, has sent a reaction to the Bank as a result of their public consultattion. Fatal Transactions argues that the Environmental and Social statement should include issues such as good governance, the fight against corruption, transparency at corporate level (such as EITI) which currently it does not address or very limited in scope. Fatal Transactions works together with Counter Balance, a European network challenging the EIB (www.counterbalance-eib.org)
